James Martinez
Mr. Martinez is the owner and President of Martinez Associates, Inc.. James has been in the geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing industry providing services on airports, highway, bridge, water/wastewater, commercial building projects for private and governmental agency clients. James has been providing comprehensive geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, and testing services throughout Colorado for over 29 years.
James is active in the local community and serves as the Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Contractors of Colorado (HCC). James has also been the Co-Chair for the CDOT Professional Services Collaborative Committee from 2016-2018. James is a current member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and sits on committees for C01 on Cement, C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates and E60 on Sustainability. These committees develop all technical standards and guidelines for the geotechnical industry worldwide.
Before starting Martinez Associates in 2011, James worked for several large national geotechnical companies growing their local operations to over 100 employees. James started his career in 1990, worked his way up from being a field engineering technician and ultimately becoming the Director of Field Services for the companies. He then decided to leave the corporate world and joined a small engineering company in Denver before purchasing the field services portion of that company and started Martinez Associates, Inc.
Jere Strickland, P.E.
Principal Professional
Mr. Strickland is the Senior Engineer at Martinez Associates. Jere is a graduate of the University of Colorado where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1977 and Master of Science degree in 1980. In 1983, he received his State of Colorado Professional Engineering license and is also a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Wyoming, Utah, Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas. Jere has spent his career as a staff engineer, principal professional, and office manager for several large engineering firms.
Jere has over 40 years of extensive experience in design and construction projects, including field investigations, preparing geotechnical engineering reports, pavement designs, slope stability analysis and retaining wall design. His project experience includes residential subdivisions, apartment complexes, large commercial buildings, high rise office and hotels, water and wastewater facilities, bridges and retaining structures for railroad and roadways, pavement evaluation and design, slope stability analysis and stabilization and building renovation and rehabilitation.
Jere manages the geotechnical engineering service line at Martinez Associates. His responsibilities consist of supervising and directing the technical, operational, management, and administrative activities of this department. Jere also works as a Project Manager, but his ultimate responsibility is the overall performance of the engineering department.
Jere is an active member and editor for the bi-annual Rocky Mountain Geo-Conference and is currently the President of the Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers (CAGE).
Kevin Runner
Mr. Runner is a Senior Project Manager at Martinez Associates in the Construction Materials Testing and Inspection Services Department. Kevin has experience in the construction industry as a general contractor and special inspector throughout the Central Valley of California and Colorado. His experience includes working for major commercial and residential high-rise developments, sub-divisions, apartment complexes, custom homes, and independent senior care facilities.
Kevin has field testing and inspection experience including structural masonry inspection, post-tension cable placements and stressing observations, reinforced concrete inspection, soils testing, asphalt testing, concrete testing, epoxy observations, pier observations and home inspections which included foundation excavation observations and footing inspection, foundation wall inspection, damp drain and void inspection, slab on grade and structural floor inspections.
Kevin has laboratory testing experience including compressive strength testing of concrete cylinders, beams, grout specimens, mortar specimens, and masonry unit prisms, moisture density relationships, gradations, maximum theoretical density, asphalt cement content by ignition oven, specific gravity, unit weights of concrete and asphalt cores, and organic impurity determination.
Kevin is responsible for marketing, writing cost estimates, budget tracking, reviewing daily field reports, drafting compliance letters, drafting investigative letters, drafting invoices to the client, completing all project records at the close of the project, supervising field technicians, equipment inventorying, day-to-day scheduling, and providing field technicians with in-house training seminars.
Gregg Tateyama, P.E.
Mr. Tateyama is a Senior Engineer at Martinez Associates. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in 1992. Gregg is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and Wyoming, with more than 28 years of diverse engineering and management experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, construction management, pavement engineering, and mine subsidence engineering for private, local and state agencies throughout the region.
Gregg has been responsible for client and public relations on numerous projects. He has managed several multi-million dollar projects in Colorado and Wyoming and is involved in estimating and reviewing project documents, schedules, quantities and budgets, along with giving engineering recommendations. He also has experience facilitating project partnering and dispute resolution to resolve conflicts between owners, consultants, contractors, and the public.
Gregg currently serves as the reviewing engineer for the construction materials testing department. He also serves as project manager on various geotechnical engineering projects. Gregg is one of the first elected Associate Steering Committee Member for the Metropolitan Government Pavement Engineers Council (MGPEC). He is also an active member of the Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers (CAGE), and the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA).
Scott Greer
Mr. Greer is the Laboratory Manager at Martinez Associates and has over 44 years of experience providing laboratory and field material testing services, construction observation, and project management duties. His field experience includes performing grading observations, in-place nuclear density testing, drilled pier observations, concrete sampling and testing, asphalt sampling and density testing. Scott has a broad range of knowledge in laboratory testing for geotechnical investigations, concrete, masonry , soils, and asphalt. He has extensive knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, multi-state DOT and USACE sampling and testing methodologies and specifications as well as laboratory quality control requirements. Scott also has been a Project Manager for over 35 years and has performed the duties of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for several large and mid-sized companies.
His current responsibilities include managing our laboratory which involve workload scheduling/management, invoicing, budget tracking, marketing, laboratory report reviewing, writing final conformance letters, and client relations. As the RSO, his duties include maintaining daily control of licensed radioactive material and other supporting documentation, along with preparation of license amendment requests and other correspondence.
Scott is also responsible for maintaining our American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) accreditation and Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) accreditation.
